AACSB refers to the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. This association has created a list of standards for business schools in order to improve business education. The first accreditation standards were established in 1919. In 1980 two sets of standards were differentiated, those for undergraduate and graduate programs. The standards that lead to accreditation are used to evaluate the school’s faculty qualifications, schools mission, faculty contributions, operations and other criteria areas. The AACSB offers two types of graduate business school accreditation, those for business programs and those for accounting programs.
What is the process for aacsb accreditation?
To first apply for accreditation the school or graduate institute must be a member of the AACSB International. Membership to AACSB can be established before the accreditation application is submitted or may be concurrent. The Institute must be offering a degree in business, specifically a bachelor or graduate degree and these degree programs must have an administration structure and resources that allow for constant improvement and excellence. The ACCSB preamble specifies the type of resources that meet the accreditation standards. The degree program as a whole is evaluated, therefore courses offered on other campuses that come under the degree program must all meet the standards set by the AACSB, this includes online MBA programs offered from graduate institutions.
